Sister Dolphin and Brother Donkey

Bruce Davis’ fictionalized account of a lively dialogue between mentor and mentee, The Love Letters of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, braces us for separation. We know St. Francis will be carried to the final mountaintop and the affection-drenched letters on trials and prayer, joy and homecoming, and also on armies and beggars, will come to an end. Still, Clare’s pain is sudden and vast as she steadies to continue alone, to lean towards beauty manifested in twenty-six shades of green.
